Wrexham man’s thank you to hospital who helped him walk again

A SAUSAGE maker from Wrexham has come up with another sizzling hot cash bonus for the hospital which helped get him back on his feet after a crippling accident.

Back in February, 35-year-old Mike Ford, who runs his own sausage factory from Pen-y-Lan Park, near Bangor-on-Dee, went along to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen, near Oswestry, to hand over £650 as a ‘thank you’ gesture for the high level of care he received when he sustained serious injuries after falling from a tree.

Although he was left paralysed after breaking his back, the dedicated team in the hospital’s Wrekin Ward helped him learn to walk again during the 10 weeks he spent under their care.

Mike, who lives at Pickhill Hall, Cross Hands in Wrexham, raised the cash by selling 250lbs of sausages made to a similar recipe to the bangers which landed him one of the top three places in the annual Wrexham Sausage Competition.

But his fundraising for the orthopaedic hospital continues, and his latest contribution of £1,060 came from raffling off a rugby shirt signed by the whole Wales team.

Mike said: “The shirt was donated to me, so I raffled it off at the Kellogg’s factory on Wrexham Industrial Estate, where I work as a maintenance engineer when I’m not making the sausages.
