Wirral butcher hopes wedding themed bangers will make a buck for Claire House

A WIRRAL sausage specialist is serving up bangers with bubbly to toast his upcoming wedding.

Butcher Dave Hardy, who owns and runs farm shop The Old Barn at Carr Farm Garden Centre in Meols, is due to wed partner Jane Davies, 48, next month.

The September 3 ceremony in Chester will be the second marriage for both.

And instead of requesting gifts, they are asking well-wishers to buy sausages Mr Hardy has created especially for the wedding – made with pork and filled with celebratory ingredients like brandy, mixed fruit and champagne.

£1 from each pack will be donated to Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Mr Hardy, 59, said: “People have been asking what we want for the wedding but we don’t need anything.

“We’re not in the first flush of youth and we’ve got two kettles, two toasters, two lots of bedding – two sets of everything.

“We wanted to use the occasion to help a good cause like Claire House. 90% of our trade is sausages and burgers so we thought we’d try to come up with something unique to sell in the shop for charity.

“It’s also a good way to let people know we’re getting married.”

Mr Hardy, who sells around 50 types of sausage in his shop, began specialising in bangers after a spell living and working in Holland.

He met his fiancée after they both moved into the same apartment block in West Kirby two and a half years ago and they now live in Meols.

Their wedding will be followed by a reception in their garden and a honeymoon in Barcelona, Spain.

Mr Hardy, who opened his shop at Carr Farm 12 years ago and now works there alongside Jane, said: “It’s about quality, quality, quality when it comes to sausage. People often like to try something different so we sell everything from Slimming World sausages to ones with wild boar and apple or cranberry.

“This one will be pork-based and we’ve added brandy, a little bit of champagne, sweet apples, raisins and orange peel.

“It’ll be just like a fruity wedding cake – but in a sausage!”
