TV stardom for Chorley butcher

Brown’s Butchers in Market Place, Chorley, took to the television screens on Thursday night as it starred in the BBC’s programme Eat Well for Less.

The butchers, which has been in Chorley since 1932, featured on the programme as their home-made sausage was compared to a top supermarket manufactured sausage.

Chorley family Howerd and Jen Booth and their two children Geo Arran featured in the show as presenters Chris Bavin and Gregg Wallace attempted to help save the family money whilst eating healthier.

Presenter of the programme Chris Bavin hailed the butchers as ‘fantastic’ and said that their product was ‘vastly superior.’

And co-owner Tim Brown was delighted with the plaudits.

He said: “We’ve had a huge upturn in people coming into the shop.

“Facebook has been going mad, people really have taken notice of it.

“Custom has increased and we haven’t even hit the weekend yet.

“The television show spent all day here, we showed them how we make a sausage and plenty of other things, it was great.

“The family were actually in yesterday, they are really nice and they come in once a fortnight.

“We really enjoyed the show and it was good to see us on the television.”

It was revealed on the programme that 12 Brown’s sausages cost just 49p extra compared to the top supermarket manufacturer’s.

The sausage underwent a taste test with all the family giving the product a big thumbs up.

And Tim feels it’s important to spend just a little bit extra.

He added: “We actually know sausages quite well, when competitions are on in the area we judge so we know what a good and bad sausage is.

“At the shop we know everything that goes into every sausage, we can trace each sausage back right to where it was reared and I think that is a really important thing that you know your product.”
