Thurston Butchers win top awards for their tasty sausages at Newark Show

Nine months after taking over the business in School Road, Thurston, Alastair Angus and his team received gold for their classic pork sausages and classic Woolpit, the latter using the same recipe as Whitehead’s Butchers which used to run in the village high street. Guinness and garlic bangers gained silver and Marmite and Cheddar and puff pastry pinwheels bronze.

Alastair said: “We’re absolutely delighted that nine months into our business we have won these accolades – it’s a real credit to our fantastic team and the support from the local area.”

Harvey Francis, 20, who has just completed his apprenticeship at the shop, said: “We use only free-range Blythburgh pork for our sausages which has great natural flavour. The rest is our secret.”
