By chance I got chatting to the most excellent and highly talented Geoff Rodgers, a singer songwriter based in Shropshire.
Geoff is one of the musicians who provide some of the popular musical entertainment at the Ludlow Food Festival. I was there a couple of weekends ago judging the “Expert’s Choice” sausage competition abley aided by the Hairy Bikers. Those guys certainly know their sausages and it was great for them to get involved with the Ludlow Sausage Trail. But more on them later.
In The Sausage King Song I think Geoff has managed to capture the essence of the Sausage King Adventures. He understands the popularity and place that the sausage has in our hearts!
Geoff lives in Shropshire. He has made quite a name for himself as a singer, performer and songwriter on the folk club, local pub and festival circuit. Formerly part of the very popular duo, “bit on the side”, who made one CD, “Running through the heart” featuring 6 of Geoff’s own songs, he is now mostly performing solo.
Geoff‘s own songs have proved particularly popular with many audiences around the country and he has had considerable success in songwriting competitions. He was runner up at the Poynton Folk Festival and has twice been a semi finalist in the UK Songwriting Competition.
In particular his songs reflect his own personal experience and interests, they are often laced with humour and passion; the mining industry, Newcastle United and the Angel of the North all get a mention, as does his commitment to justice and fair trade, with many songs being based in the North East of England where Geoff was brought up.
To say I’m excited about seeing Geoff perform live is an understatement. His performances vary from traditional material to contemporary songs, folk, blues, rock, pop, even the odd jazz standard can be thrown in, and plenty of variety and humour. He rarely works to a set list but being the human juke box that he is, he can vary his show to suit the audience.
He has supported the likes of Vin Garbutt, Jez Lowe, Bob Fox, Ben Murray & Rosie Doonan, Ryzhome, John Kirkpatrick, The Loxley Trio and many more.
Instrumentally, Geoff plays acoustic instruments by Fylde including Guitar, Bouzouki and Mandolin and also has an Avalon guitar. He also plays Cajon, Mouth Organ and Whistle.
