A motion to support the protection of Lincolnshire sausages has been passed unanimously by councillors.

During a meeting at North Kesteven District Council this week councillors Marianne Overton and David Suiter tabled the motion.

The council will now gives its full support for the campaign to grant Lincolnshire Sausages protected geographical status from the Department of the Environment Food and Rural Affairs.

Protected geographical status for Lincolnshire Sausages would mean that they could only be manufactured in Lincolnshire according to a specified criteria.

Councillor Marianne Overton said: “We need to put Lincolnshire first and support our local producers.
