Seven-year-old scoops prize for her tasty sausage recipe

SHE has been making sausages since the age of three in her dad’s butcher shop.

Now a seven-year-old Hampshire girl has won an award after entering her own special recipe in a sausage competition.

Amelia Broadribb, a pupil at Ampfield School, Romsey, is celebrating after a panel of national sausage experts gave her sausage a 100 percent flavour rating.

The youngster took on 18 other entrants in the under-19 category with her bread and butter sausage at the British Pig Executives sausage competition in Exeter this month.

Her tasty creation saw her win gold in the Apprentership category.

Simon Broadribb, Amelia’s dad, who is also an award-winning sausage maker, see panel right, at Uptons Butchers in Bassett, said: “She’s very proud of the award. She got a gold award for her sausage and an overall grade of 95 per cent. We have made loads of sausages together over the years. Her sausage is like a bread and butter pudding as it has bread, eggs, milk and ginger in it.

“It came out really nice and the judges thought it was very tasty. She lost a few points because it split while it was cooking. But she is very excited about winning and took her certificate to school.”
