Set for a sizzler at Sausage Fest!

Sausage Fest, which has been organised by Simon Needs, 53, will take place on August 24 at the band stand in Mill Meadows.

Simon, who is dad to Toby, 25, and Hannah, 27, lives in Chudleigh Close, Bedford, and he has been organising the event for three years, but this is the first time that he and his friends have gone public with the wacky competition.

He said: “It all started in my back garden and every year it gets bigger.

“People either make a sausage, have one made for them or buy one off the shelf and then it is judged at the event.

“It’s a fun event and something a bit different. Now it’s open to the public we hope people will come along with their sausages and have some fun.”

Last year’s winner, Caroline Eales, has also helped to organise the riverside event, which includes live music from singer songwriter Alex Early, and jazz musician Richard Compton.

Caroline’s winning sausage was made by Lingers Butchers in St Cuthbert’s Street, who have agreed to sponsor Sausage Fest this year.

The free tongue-in-cheek barbecue event kicks off at 1pm and all attending are asked to bring some sausages.

You can also take along your own alcoholic and soft drinks.
