Sausage gold awards for Burnley butchers

Edwards Farm Butchers in Padiham Road, Burnley, entered five sausages in the BPEX pork sausage awards – and promptly won them all.

The family business, which started life 50 years ago in Nelson, is now run by Nathan Edwards (37).

Nathan said: “We have a farm in Higham where we rear our own beef but we make our sausages with pork from Bacup.

“It was a real team effort and I had help making them from our butcher Jordan Proctor and our apprentice Joe McManus.”

The sausages, named by Nathan, were Benedict Cumberland, the Lincoln Beauty, the Princely Porker, a black pudding and mustard creation named the Colonel and the Sweet Thai-ld of Mine.

Nathan added: “We are delighted to win such a prestigious award and to have all five win gold is just superb.

“We’ve been in this shop now for 32 years. My mum still works at the shop, while my dad works at the farm. Like I said, it’s a real team effort.”
