Powters Picks Up Two Coveted Foodie Oscars

Powters, which has been making its famous artisan sausages since 1881, picked up awards for its Prize Pig and Party Pig sausages in the national competition, which judged over 12,600 products this year.

These two awards bring the brand’s tally to six in total, proving that high quality ingredients and traditional production does produce the very best quality bangers.

Tristan Powter of Powters comments, “We are delighted to pick up two more highly coveted Great Taste Awards as they really are the seal of foodie approval in the world of fine foods and highly acclaimed, both in the industry and by consumers.”

The ‘Prize Pig’ sausage, a 97% ultra meaty, gluten free sausage, was highly praised by the judges who remarked on the “delicate spicing and seasoning”, commenting that “their fulsome texture certainly lives up to the hefty descriptor, we would be very happy to get this in to a full English”.

The ’Party Pig’, its dinky little cocktail sausages, made using the highly acclaimed Newmarket Pig (PGI protected) recipe, also picked up an award. These were remarked on as being “a meaty little sausage” and “for it’s category a fine example”.

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.

“As a Suffolk- based artisan producer with a rich heritage dating back since 1881, adding two more Great Taste Awards to our portfolio makes all our hard work worthwhile. Our staff and hard working team should be proud of their efforts!” adds Tristan.

Powters produces nine different varieties of sausage: Newmarket Pig, Scrumpy Pig, Prize Pig, Chilli Pig, Pigolatas Chipolatas, Skinny Pig, Tipsy Pig, Party Pig, Chef’s Pig. It now holds six Great Taste Awards.
