Meaty treats pass national taste test

TWO well-known Bewdley butchers are celebrating after they won awards for their sausages and a venison burger in a national competition.

Mick Jeynes and Sam Lyes, joint partners of Bewdley Quality Butchers, Load Street, entered three sausages and a burger in the National Meat Products Competition.

The bangers, both cooked and raw, were put to the test, along with the burger, when they were sent to the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, to be judged.

The butchers scooped a gold award for the burger and silver awards for the sausages.

Mr Lyes said: “The competition is for small retail butchers. It’s the first one we have entered. We always knew we made good sausages and entered knowing it’s a good competition.”

The partners, who have worked together for 10 years, opened the shop around two years ago.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mr Lyes added: “I’m really pleased about winning. I’m especially pleased about winning gold for the burger as it is my own recipe.

“The judges looked at the raw sausage to make sure it was a nice full sausage and that it had a good shape. Our pork is sourced from Worcestershire and we make all the sausages on the premises.”
