Let’s celebrate the sausage – British Sausage Week returns

The biggest sausage celebration of the year gets underway from 31 October – 6 November 2016 with the 19th annual British Sausage Week.  There will be events up and down the country and, as usual, I will give details on those as I can.

Sausage Makers: The famous British Sausage Week competition, which last year saw over 750 different varieties from independent butchers, farm shops, retailers and suppliers to the foodservice sector battle it out for a prestigious title, is now open for entries.

Keith Fisher, who retired as butchery development manager for AHDB Pork earlier this year, will continue to wear his iconic blue hat and coat as he resumes his role as head judge for the competition.

Shaun Vining of Complete Meats, winner of last year’s Britain’s Best Banger competition, said: “It really is quite unbelievable how a certificate stating a sausage is award-winning can have such an impact on customers. We quadrupled sales of our Pork and Otter Ale sausage after winning the competition. We will definitely be entering again this year.”
