As I couldn’t make it myself to Jimmy’s Farm Sausage and Beer Festival this year (due to the arrival of our second son) I asked Matt Cockin of The Fruit Pig Company if he would mind standing in and joining Tony Hadley and the rest of the judging panel in my place.
Matt’s daughter also joined him and provided some excellent photos. Matt worked his magic with the judging and provided me with some feedback on the entrants. Let’s hope he didn’t do too good a job as I would like to go myself next year!
First up was the eating competition – 1kg of sausages as quickly as possible!
I must say the sausages for this competition looked pretty good at least from the photos.
There can, of course, only be one winner and in true Man Vs Food style the competition was won.
Next up was the serious business of judging the best sausage competition.
The entrants were:
- Evergreen Farm*
- Chilli Company
- Spaynes Hall Farm*
- Great British Sausage Company
- Langs Traditional Meats*
SK – * Not sure on accuracy of links as I wasn’t there in person.
As well as Matt from the Fruit Pig Company, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet joined the panel of judges to provide his opinion on things. Other judges included Jimmy Doherty who himself has some very high quality sausages on sale in his excellent farm shop.
After a very close run battle Jimmy was ready to announce the winner.
The title went to The Great British Sausage Company for their Cumberland Style sausage.
I can’t wait to get involved again next year when hopefully the entrants will be as good as they have clearly been this year.
