Goat Sausages – You Must Be Kidding

VISITORS to this month’s Nantwich Food and Drink Festival will be able to find goat on the menu.

Tim and Marnie Dobson of Chestnut Meats in Nantwich are one of only a handful of goat farmers in the UK, and are looking forward to tempting visitors to the festival’s farmers’ market with their range of goat steaks, sausages and burgers.

Originally from a dairy farming background, Tim and Marnie planned to farm goats for milk, but were on a family holiday Canada when they were introduced to the delights of goat meat. Recognising a gap in the market, they decided to start breeding goats for meat, and now have a herd of over 400 boer goats on their Cheshire Farm.

Goat is a deep red, tender and sweet meat which is rich in iron and B vitamins.

It is a regular in Afro-Caribbean recipes and popular with our European neighbours.
