Girls plan to get Bury sizzling with sausages

Sexy sausages could bring some sizzle to Bury St Edmunds as a new bangers and mash restaurant prepares to dazzle diners in the town.

Claire Anderton and her business partner Charlie Knight hope to transform the former Golden Palace, in Hatter Street, into the saucily-named Bang Bangs, offering the staple British dish at set prices.

Miss Anderton, 28, said: “Bangers and mash is something everyone loves but we want to serve it in an atmosphere that is quite different.

“It is going to be sexy, we want to bring a little bit of a cosmopolitan feel to Bury.”

Despite dishing up traditional comfort food, the pair hope to bring a little pizzazz to the town, by creating a stylish, 1940s decor, with Champagne buckets and chandeliers.

Diners would be able to enjoy the dish in varying sizes: the diddy, the dainty and the hearty, as well as other set-price meals, served by waitresses clad in leopard-skin uniforms and dashing waiters in black suits with bow ties and cummerbunds.

Miss Anderton, from Bury, said: “We want something a bit special and extremely glamorous, where you can sit quite happily and drink Champagne or real ale.

“We want customers to feel like a million dollars as it can sometimes be a bit hard to go out in Bury and not feel over-dressed if you want to put on a sparkly top and do your hair.”

The pair are in the final stages of buying the building and have applied to St Edmundsbury Borough Council to stage live entertainment events such as comedy and singers once a month.

Set to open in the autumn, the girls have applied to play recorded music and serve alcohol until midnight from Monday to Saturday and till 10pm on Sunday.

In their licence application, they say they will install CCTV, join Pub Watch and will actively discourage outside noise in a bid to settle in within the Hatter Street community.

Miss Knight, also 28, added: “We saw the building and thought it was fantastic. It is just perfect.
