The National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) has announced six of the best young butchers in the UK to compete for the Premier Young Butcher 2014 title.
The six finalists will compete against each other at Foodex on 25 March at Birmingham’s NEC.
They will demonstrate their skills in different categories to win trophies for Display, Ready to Eat, Stuffed Roast, Seam Butchery, Barbecue, and Kitchen Ready products. At the end of the five-hour marathon an overall Premier Young Butcher and a runner-up will also be picked.
The finalists, selected from applicants from around the country, are as follows: Joshua Brown from Wolverhampton and Essington Farm Shop, Bolster Moor’s Will Dickinson from Huddersfield, John Rendell who works for Owen Taylor in Derbyshire, Chris Riley from Woodlands Farm Shop in Leicestershire, and Peter Rushforth from Flintshire working at Frank Parker Butchers in Nuneaton.
Federation chief executive Roger Kelsey said: “The competition this year promises to be as close and as exciting as it was last year and with 14 trophies to compete for, there is no reason why everyone shouldn’t go away with something.”
