Croots Farm Shop unveils Olympig sausages

Derbyshire farm shop Croots has launched an Olympig range of sausages to celebrate this summer’s major sporting event.

Twenty per cent from the sale of each pack of sausages will be donated to Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, which provides holidays for disadvantaged youngsters from the county.

The pork, apple and Stilton sausages are the latest bangers to be added to the award-winning range at Croots, which is based at Farnah House Farm, Wirksworth Road, Duffield.

“Our customers are great supporters of charity and love it when we create a new sausage for a special occasion, so we’re hoping to raise lots of money for Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre between now and the end of the 2012 Olympics,” said Steve Croot, who runs Croots Farm Shop.

The shop is renowned for its home-made sausages and has won numerous awards, including Great Taste Awards, which are regarded as the Oscars of the food industry.

The pork, apple and Stilton Olympig sausages were designed by butcher Rob Tomkins, who heads up the butchery team, and made in-house using Packington Free Range pork, from Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire.

The Olympig sausages cost £7.49 per kilo, with 20% going to charity, and will be on sale from now until the end of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Croots, which employs more than 20 people in its shop and café, has chosen the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre as its charity of the year, along with the Shire Horse Society, which it regularly supports.

Opened in 2008, Croots was a runner-up in the Best UK Independent Food Retailer 2010 category of the Observer Food Monthly Awards. The year before, it was named in The Independent’s top 50 best food shops.

Croots Farm Shop and Kitchen is open Sundays from 10am to 4pm (café until 3.45pm), and from Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm (café until 4.30pm). It is closed on Mondays.
