Classic on menu at food spectacular

The first Sausage and Potato Festival is set to be held in Lincoln this weekend.

The county’s two trademark foods – bangers and spuds – will be cooking up a storm in honour of the International Year of the Potato.

Foodies from all over the UK will be in the Bailgate area of the city on Saturday to celebrate all things great about the humble spud and its sizzling partner.

Organisers say it will be the biggest celebration of sausages and potatoes ever to be held in the country.

Lydia Rusling, from Tastes of Lincolnshire, said: “For one day only the grounds around Lincoln Castle will be transformed into a potato and sausage extravaganza. It’s a feast for visitors who are proud of British produce.

“The air will be filled with mouthwatering flavours as live cookery demonstrations take place and stalls offer edible treats.”

The free day out will also feature activities for children, including a Mr Potato Head design competition and an education marquee with guest chefs Harry Woo and Maf Hudda.

The Sausage Festival will take place in Castle Square area, while the potato showcase will be held in Lincoln Castle grounds.

The Lincolnshire Sausage Festival has been around for the past five years, but in honour of the International Year of the Potato, Tastes of Lincolnshire decided to host the one-off Potato Festival at the same time.
