Butcher teaches youngsters for Sausage Week

The pupils at St Joseph’s Primary School were treated to a day of sausage making using Appleton’s traditional pork sausage recipe. Year five teacher Louise Watson said it was a day of education as well as fun: “It’s been a great opportunity for the children to learn the old-fashioned skills of sausage making.”

She added: “It’s invaluable for young people to know the importance of good quality meat, and to know exactly what they’re eating. It’s been a great way to get them cooking at home too.”

Butcher and owner of Appleton’s, Anthony Sterne commented: “Red meat – including pork – often gets a bad reputation in the press, but it’s incredibly high in protein and provides a high amount of nutrients per calorie.

“Giving the children the sausages to take home has been great too, hopefully they’ve enjoyed cooking them at home with their families.”
