Butcher on best banger shortlist

Malvern Butchery is among the 10 butchers from the West Midlands, shortlisted from hundreds of entries, who will battle it out for the highly coveted British Banger Award. Owner James Torrance was shortlisted for his pork sausage which he said uses “top quality local pork and the best seasonings”.

The butcher has already produced award winning items and is going from strength to strength, he said: “I moved here seven years ago, I moved down from Glasgow. We’re now building up our reputation for quality.

“We only use top quality ingredients, no rubbish goes in them and it’s a 90 per cent meat content.

“It enhances the flavour because we only use the best, locally sourced ingredients.”

After more than 35 years in the meat trade, this will be his first cookoff style competition, usually bringing his products pre-cooked for inspection.

The cook-off takes place at Old Joint Stock in Birmingham on Wednesday, November 6, where one butcher will be crowned regional winner.

British Sausage Week runs from Monday to Sunday.
