Butcher in line for sausage of the year award

IT’S the award all sausage makers across the country want, the Foodservice Sausage of the Year, and one butcher from Cam is in with a good chance of winning it.

Mark Carr, owner of Cam Family Butchers, is excited by the prospect of winning the coveted award for his own ‘three shires apple and herb sausage’. The family butchers, in Phillimore Road, has an array of award-winning sausages made with local meat that are popular with regulars. But this year Mr Carr is going for the overall winner’s title and thinks he might be in with a good chance.

“This is a big award for sausage manufacturers so it’s one we would really like to win,” said Mr Carr.

“I hope we are in with a good chance, it is a very strong product and I think it deserves to win.”

The competition, organised by BPEX who represents pig levy payers in England, is an annual highlight for sausage manufacturers and over 250 sausages were entered in this year’s competition.

The winner will be announced later this month.
