Butcher Pat Turner has created a Nato sausage in time for the visit of Barack Obanger!
The spicy creation was inspired by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s September summit in Newport.
“We thought we would do something nice for Newport and we came up with the Nato Sausage,” Pat said
“It’s wonderful. It got spices in from all the different countries. There are eight different spices and herbs.”
The boss of Turner’s Fine Foods hoped the sausages would “bring the community together.”
“We have got pork, mixed herbs, chives, garlic black pepper, Worcester sauce smoked paprika, nutmeg,” he said.
“I couldn’t really pinpoint which ingredients represent which countries. If you say garlic, that would be French. But every country uses it as much as the others at the moment.
He feared revealing which ingredient represented which country could provoke hostilities.
“We could work it out I suppose,” he said.
“But then we’d have the Germans saying, ‘We are known for black pepper and not the French.’
“We tried to put everything in it.”
