4,000+ people vote for their favourite sausage in annual Battle of the Bangers contest

The ballot at today’s contest saw Archer’s, of Plumstead Road, Norwich, emerge as the winner, with Coxfords Butchers, of Aylsham, second.

And there was success for the first vegetarian sausage to take part in the contest. It was entered by Art Cafe, from Glandford in north Norfolk, which came seventh, in a field of 10, despite not containing any meat.

The Battle of the Bangers contest was a highlight of the Norwich Food and Drink Festival, which for the first time took place over the whole weekend, to coincide with the Tour of Britain, which provided live music for yesterday’s festivities.

Anna Stevenson, coordinator of Norfolk Food and Drink, hailed the two-day format as a great success.

She said: “It was absolutely fantastic. We were so lucky with the weather. The producers reported that it was really busy. They had a great time.”

She added that holding the event at Chapelfield Gardens helped attract people wandering past, as well as those who had set out to attend.
